How to Recover Digital Photos from CF Card

Nowadays, digital cameras are most commonly used to capture large number of photos. Earlier film cameras were used to capture photos, where film itself serves as a storage medium for photos. Whereas, image sensor or CCD (Charged Coupled Device) of digital cameras are only responsible to capture images and they are not able to retain the photos when you switch off the camera. Earlier digital cameras uses built in non removable storage memory. If this memory gets full, then you need to transfer those photos to your system to capture new photos. Therefore, digital cameras uses removable storage devices like memory cards as a storage device to store photos. Sometimes, logical problems with memory card cause photos loss.

There are number of digital photo recovery software available to restore lost photos from memory cards. CF (Compact Flash) cards, XD (Extreme Digital), SD (Secure Digital) are the different types of memory cards. Generally, digital cameras uses CF cards, because they are more durable, reliable and have higher storage capacity compared to other types of memory cards. CF cards can also be used in professional digital cameras and works like a hard drive. Therefore, CF cards are less prone to mechanical failures but sometimes they may face logical problems which may in turn causes photo loss. You can easily recover accidentally deleted photos from CF cards using relevant CF card recovery software.

Sometimes, while using CF cards, you may come across “999 or 9999 error”, which may sometime results in photo loss. This error message occurs generally when your CF card’s storage capacity becomes full. You may reset file numbering manually or automatically. If your using auto reset option then each time when you insert a CF card numbering starts from highest image file number in the highest numbered folder. If you use manual reset option, it will automatically create new folder with the next higher folder number then numbering for image file starts from 001. If your camera reaches folder number 999 or if number of photos in folders reach 9999 then you may get an error message, which may not allow you to capture further photos from same memory cards.

Therefore, check frequently whether CF card has considerable amount of storage capacity to capture photos or not. If not, then insert new CF card to capture more photos. If you try to capture new photos even after CF card gets full then there may be chances of overwriting of photos that may results in photo loss. To recover lost photos from CF cards, you can use CF card recovery software.
